Dr. Luay Sayed, cardiologist, Medical Director, Interventional Vascular Lab, at Troy Beaumont Hospital, is the 2017 recipient of ASACA’s Award for Community Leadership for his volunteer work treating Syrian Refugees in Amman, Jordan.
The ceremony will take place during our Banquet on Sep 16, 2017. Dr. Sayed is one of 6 cardiologists from the US that started a mission to Jordan to treat Syrian refugee patients in need of cardiac catheters or stents. They have concluded 4 missions over the last year.
Dr. Sayed participated in 2 missions, in November 2016 and July 2017. His next planned mission date is November 2017. Each mission is usually 6 working days at a local hospital with 12-14 cases daily. In addition, the doctors see refugees for consultations at the hospital clinic in between cases as well as at the Zaatary and the Mafraq clinics. The mission provides 6 months worth of medication for the stent patients.
